Sarah was born in Charlotte, NC, November 21, 1927 to Warren and Rebekah Cochrane. She had two sisters, Margaret Hinton (deceased) and Marion Orr. She graduated from Derita High School in 1944 and Queens College in 1948, with a major in Psychology and Minor in Sociology. She is preceded in death by both parents, her sister Margaret and husband Vernon Hinton, and her son-in-law Stephen Neal.
Sarah is survived by four children, Dianne (Chris) Agner, Amy Poole (Ron Grumbles), Sally Brown, and Laurie Howard.
Eleven grandchildren, Elizabeth (John) Brady, Rebekah (Tom) Stanton, Nathan (Kristen)Agner, Matthew (Carmen)Agner, Joel (Samantha)Agner, Jennifer (James P.)Pressly,Olivia and Joshua Poole, Sarah Beth and Dorothy Brown, and Jake (Sarah) Howard.
There are eleven great-grandchildren, Marshall and Luke Brady, Emily and Brian Stanton, William and Spencer Agner, Charles Agner, John, Carolyn, James, and Samuel Pressly.
She was an active Member of Plaza Presbyterian Church, and served as Deacon, Elder, President of Women of the Church, Women’s Circle leader and member, and member of the Choir, and was a Commissioner to Presbytery General Assembly at Salt Lake City, Utah, 1990.
Her many contributions during her lifetime included volunteering with the Red Cross working in the Donor Room and Canteen, Swim Teacher, Girl Scout Leader and Trainer, Received the ‘Thanks Badge’ in Scouting. She was PTA President for 2 years at Shamrock Elementary, and 2 years at Hawthorne Middle School. She was honored to become Lifetime Member with Girl Scouts of America.
Sarah’s hobbies included sewing, working in her garden, painting, pottery, reading, photography, teaching Children’s Swimming and Canoeing lessons, Music, Theatre, Opera, UNCC and Davidson Basketball Games, Camping with Family and Girl Scouts, Monday Coffees, Entertaining and spending time with friends and family.
She was a Loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Sister and Friend to Many. The Family would like to thank Assisted Living staff at Trinity Oaks in Salisbury for their wonderful care.

Graveside services are planned for 10 a.m. Monday at Evergreen Cemetery, 4426 Central Ave., Charlotte, NC. Memorial services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Plaza Presbyterian Church, 2304 The Plaza, Charlotte, NC with Rev. Tom Tate officiating.
A time of visitation and fellowship will follow the service at the church.
