Charlotte - Sara Ann Richardson Layman passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on June 29, 2018 at the Little Flower Assisted Living in Mint Hill. She was born in Charlotte in 1926 and lived most of her life here. Ann was married for 65 years to Eugene Freed Layman, Jr. who predeceased her in 2011. She was a mother of seven children, grandmother of twenty-two and great-grandmother of six.
Ann was the daughter of Allen T. Richardson and Elsie Mae Lawing Richardson. As a child, Ann lived in Dilworth and attended O’Donoghue Catholic High School. She was an active life-long member of the Catholic Church and a parishioner of St. Ann’s Catholic Church on Park Road since 1963.
She leaves her brother, Michael Richardson of Memphis and her half-sisters, Barbara Richardson Wycoff and Beatrice Sue Karns, both of Pittsburgh, PA. Ann was predeceased by brothers, Dicky Richardson of Charlotte, John Richardson of Charlotte, Charles Richardson of Hickory and sisters, Betty Wade of Charlotte and Nancy Kendall of Mississippi. She also leaves many nieces and nephews, for whom she cared deeply.
Ann will be forever missed by her loving children: Eugene F. (Terry) Layman, III of Teaneck, NJ (and his wife, Ellen and daughter, Allison); Christopher Nelson Layman of Wilmington, NC (and his children: Shannon, Christopher and Elizabeth); Margaret Fontaine of Southport, NC (and her husband, Raymond and children: Michael, Nicholas and Adrienne); Stephen Randolph Layman of Charlotte (and his wife, Susan Thrower Layman and sons, Stephen and Matthew); Patricia Taft of Charlotte (and her daughters, Garrett and Deborah); Jane Pickhardt of Charlotte (and her husband, Thomas and children: Joseph, Sarah, Emily, Mary, Anne, Clare and Patricia Jane); Catherine Bortz of Charlotte (and her husband, Scott and children: Cooper, Addison, Adele and Hayes).
The family will receive friends Friday, July 6th, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Road. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 3635 Park Road, on Saturday, July 7th, at 10:00 a.m. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Little Flower Assisted Living for their exceptional care and support.
