Sara Willard Johnson, of Chapel Hill, NC, died on May 11, 2014 after a brief illness. She was born on February, 14, 1931 in Winston-Salem, NC. Sara was predeceased by her husband, Robert H. Johnson of Silk Hope. Her first husband was Charles P. Wilson, Jr. of Greensboro.
She is survived by her daughter, Denise Wilson Lloyd and her husband, Max, of Chapel Hill; three grandchildren, Steele, Rachel and Wilson; her sisters, June Fogleman and husband, Howard, of Burlington and Doris Dull of Winston-Salem; and her brother, Charles Willard and wife, Pam, of Alexandria, Virginia.
After graduating from Gray High School and Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC, Sara was a devoted math teacher for 28 years, retiring from the Mecklenburg County School System. She spent her retirement gardening, quilting, playing bridge and doting on her grandchildren while living at the Carolina Meadows Retirement Community in Chapel Hill.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sara’s memory may be made to Triangle Down Syndrome Network, PO Box 37305, Raleigh NC 27627, or to the charity of one’s choice.
The family wishes to thank the amazing staff that cared for Sara in the cardiac unit of UNC-Hospitals. They were such a blessing to Sara and Denise during this difficult transition.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3 pm on Monday, May 19, at Carolina Meadows, 100 Carolina Meadows, Chapel Hill, NC 27517, 919-942-4014.
