Samuel Clinton McElhaney, 63, of Charlotte, NC, passed away Sunday, August 2nd, 2015 with his family by his side. He was born on January 3rd, 1952, graduated from Garinger High School, and attended Central Piedmont Community College. After years in sales, he and his wife Jenny started their own company, Dataprint, in 1978. The success of Dataprint was made possible because of the mutual loyalty and dedication of Sam and his employees. He and Jenny sold the company in 1994, which gave them the opportunity to travel and spend time with their family.
Sam was a dedicated member and elder at Sardis Presbyterian Church, and he never missed an opportunity to volunteer and give back to the community.
Sam was preceded in death by his father, Samuel L. McElhaney, and his son, Scott McElhaney. He is survived by his wife, Jenny; mother, Betty Knight; brother, Tom McElhaney, and his wife Jane and their children; daughter-in-law, Ellen McElhaney; two grandchildren, Jacob and Julia McElhaney; and many cousins and friends. He also leaves behind his loyal canine companions, Sadie and Stella.
A celebration of Sam’s life will be held Friday, August 7th at 2 pm at Sardis Presbyterian Church, 6100 Sardis Road, Charlotte, NC, with Dr. J. Thomas Kort and Reverend Alice Johnson officiating. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sardis Presbyterian Church, Urban Ministry Center, 945 North College Street, Charlotte, NC 28206 or BSA Troop 33 in care of Sardis Presbyterian Church. Burial will be private.
