Mr. Samuel Lee Davidson passed away peacefully Sunday morning, November 28th, at Levine and Dixon Hospice House of Huntersville, with family. He has rejoined his cherished wife of 66 years, Lounette Davidson, in heaven.
Samuel, known to most as Sam or Sammy, was born in 1934 in Mooresboro, NC, to the late Grady and Bertha Davidson. He moved to Charlotte in 1953, and shortly afterward, married his high school sweetheart, Lounette. They went on to raise four children together. Sam started as a lineman for Duke Power at age 19 and worked through many stormy nights, including Hurricane Hugo. His work ethic allowed him to become a lineman supervisor. After 38 years at Duke Power, he retired but continued to work odd jobs as a courier and driver. He even worked as a handyman with a close friend who nicknamed them the “Dream Team.” Throughout his life, Sam was a steadfast member of his church, including Hillcrest Baptist, First Baptist of Charlotte, Durham Memorial Baptist, and First Baptist of Stanley. He served as a deacon and a repairman. He also supported and volunteered for many mission trips. Throughout his life, he was a devoted member of the church community.
Sam was a man of few words with a heart full of love. Everyone knew that no matter the time or place, they could always depend on him, whether it be a medicine run in the snow or fixing a fuse at midnight. Sam played basketball in high school, and later enjoyed playing softball at work and golfing with friends and family. You could always find him pulling for Bill Elliot on the Nascar race and some Fridays, in the stands at a Hornet’s game in his teal and purple jacket. He followed the Braves long enough to see them win the World Series twice. Sam told stories of hunting with his favorite beagle. He grew the best tomatoes and gave them away all summer. There was no better tomato sandwich in town than with his fresh, ripe-from-the-windowsill tomatoes, but only with Duke’s mayo. He also regularly gave blood to the Red Cross for many years. The two things Sam hated in the world were going to the doctor and raking up the sycamore leaves and gumballs. He loved his John Deere riding mower and relished a good Bojangles biscuit with friends or just drinking coffee with his morning paper. Sam dreamed of being a “mountain man” and loved his trip to Alaska the most of all his travels. Although he was usually quiet, when he did speak, his words held deep wisdom and truth. His friendships were everlasting and too many to name; he treasured them all. He loved his family fiercely and was a rock for all of us at one point or another. Sam worked with all of his heart and soul to serve others and lived his life for the Lord.
Sam is survived by his four loving children and their spouses: Phil and Debbie Davidson; Judy and Richard Bogan; Cheryl and Bruce Cole; and John and Robin Davidson. He was a beloved grandfather to six grandchildren: Jeremy Davidson, Emily Nixon, Courtney Tench, Josh Davidson, Drew Davidson, and Tori Cole Ollis; plus six great-grandchildren: Samuel, Anna, Julia, Rachel, Jackson, and Brayden. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Dean Davidson. He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Lounette; as well as his brother, Alfred Davidson; his sister, Margaret Hullender; and his half-brother, Clarence Spratt. He also leaves behind many other family members who will miss him.
