Ruth Nell Jones

Ruth Nell Jones, 97, of Charlotte, NC passed peacefully on February 6, 2023. Nell was born on September 29, 1925, in Kings Mountain, NC, to the late Butler and Fannie Dixon. She was the youngest of 9 children.

After high school she graduated from Kings Business College. During WWII Nell worked at a munitions plant in Charlotte, where she inspected bullets. From there she went on to work for the Butterick Pattern Company in Dallas, Texas, where she was a pattern picker. Later she worked part time as a bookkeeper.

In 1947 Nell married the love of her life, William “Bill” Jones. From this union the two had two beautiful daughters, Dana and Marcy. Nell and Bill remained married for 73 years, until his passing in 2020.

Nell loved to spend time with her family and friends. When she wasn’t spending time with them you could find her reading, gardening, or going for a nice walk to enjoy the birds and the flowers.

She leaves behind to cherish her loving memory her two daughters, Dana Jacobson (Bill) and Marcy Gullet (Barry); 2 grandchildren, Amber and Gabe; 2 great grandchildren, Calum and Christopher; and many other family members and friends.

The family appreciates and thanks the staff at PruittHealth – Town Center for caring for Nell and Bill during their last years and all of Bill and Nell’s friends and relatives for their visits, calls, cards and letters.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Nell Jones to the Bethlehem Baptist Church Building Fund, 1017 Bethlehem Road, Kings Mountain, NC 28086.

A visitation for Ruth Nell will be held Monday, February 13, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at McEwen Funeral Service-Derita Chapel, 6300 Mallard Creek Road, Charlotte, NC 28262. A funeral service will occur Monday, February 13, 2023 at 1:30 PM, 6300 Mallard Creek Road, Charlotte, NC 28262. A committal service & burial will occur Monday, February 13, 2023.
