Ruth P. Byrd

Ruth Pettus Byrd NORTH MYRTLE BEACH - Ruth Pettus Byrd, 83, of North Myrtle Beach, formerly of Charlotte, passed away on February 20th, 2013. She was born in Fort Mill, SC to the late Dallas W. Pettus and Beulah Patterson Pettus. After graduating from Indian Land High School, Ruth moved to Charlotte where she married the love of her life, the late John William (Bill) Byrd, Sr. Together they owned and operated The Byrd's Florist and Catering for over 30 years. Ruth loved spending time with her family, especially her five great-grandchildren, watching golf and pulling for the Wolfpack. She always welcomed company at the beach and looked forward to summer and all the guests. Ruth is survived by son, John and Paty Byrd of Mt Holly, and daughter Judy and Rev. Keith Bumgarner of Charlotte; five grandsons, Shawn Byrd, Chris and Angie Byrd, Lane Bumgarner, Brett and Cindy Bumgarner, and Patrick and Amy Bumgarner; four great-granddaughters, Taylor, Emma, Avery and Adele, one great- grandson, Brinton. Ruth also has one brother, Joe and Jane Pettus of Fort Mill, SC and one sister, Virginia Danenhower of Rock Hill, SC and many loving nieces and nephews. Ruth was also preceded in death by three brothers, Tom, Aaron and William Pettus and one sister, Miriam Pettus Shapcott. A time of celebration of Ruth's life will be at Harvest Church, Saturday, February 23rd , 3pm with visitation from 2-3pm. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill United Methodist, Indian Land, SC and a short visitation will follow in the sanctuary. We would like to thank her best friend, Jean Gordon for all the love and time she shared with Ruth.
