Ruth M Bennett

She attended secretarial school in Richmond, Virginia, where she met and married her husband of 70 years, Calvin Leon Bennett. A dedicated homemaker and mother to three daughters, she began selling Avon in 1973 and continued until the week before her death. She was awarded numerous sales honors through the decades, yet her satisfaction in her work was derived chiefly from the personal relationships she formed, as customers became dear friends.

Her devotion to family was matched by her dedication to her faith. A member of the Church of Christ for nearly 70 years, she attended congregations in Highland Park, Richmond, VA., Kirkwood in Atlanta (where the family lived briefly) - and in Charlotte, the Dilworth, Westside, Mountain Isle and Archdale congregations. She was beloved by many for her wisdom, optimism and kindness.

Mrs. Bennett is survived by her husband, Calvin Bennett, her three daughters, Evelyn Thon of Atlanta, GA, Diane Hirshfield of Fort Mill, SC and Ellis Anderson Jaubert of Bay St. Louis, MS. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 23, 2011 at 11:00am at Archdale Church of Christ 2525 Archdale Drive Charlotte, NC 28210. Visitation will be held one hour prior. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn West cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Southeastern Children's Home 115 Childrens Way Duncan, SC 29334 ph. 864-439-0259.
