Daughter of deceased parents William P Turner and Bessie A. Turner of Union County, NC; beloved wife of the late (’14) Joseph A. Lemmond; mother of the late (’97) Donald E. Lemmond, and daughter Shirley L. Ray (Ricky), Ruby turner Lemmond left this life on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 with the hope for a reunion with her first loves Joe and Don.
Ruby was born August 8, 1923 in Union County. After graduating from Indian Trail High School in 1940, she married Joe on August 28th. They moved to Charlotte where their union thrived for 74 years until his death.
She spoke fondly of her years working for Delmar printinting, but her life’s focus was home, family and faith. Her allegiance to her Turner family never failed. Her faith was nurtured first at Antioch UMC and later at Kilgo UMC until she was no longer able to attend.
Ruby’s interests and talents included home cooking, meticulous sowing, crocheting and gardening both flowers and vegetables as evident by the beautiful azaleas adorning her Plaza Midwood home since 1957.
The family is appreciative of the help and care provided by everyone at Brookdale for the past year. Special thanks to Drs. Edward and Marshal McMillan whose attentive care aided the family in keeping Ruby with us for 94 years.
She leaves behind daughter Shirley; grandchildren Richard J. Ray (Courtney) of Winston-Salem, NC, Kim Mikeska and Tony Lemmond both of Texas; great grands Reagan J. Ray, 8 months old, Kinsey and Matthew Mikeska and Aubrey Neff; sister Mary T. Little; sister in law Betty Turner.
Ruby’s life and passing will be celebrated privately at the Sharon Memorial Park gravesite on Monday, February 19, 2018.
