Ronny (Ron) LaMont Jordan passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, May 22 surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Greenville, South Carolina on March 27, 1946 to Loys Agustus Jordan and Ruth Sweet Jordan. Ron was the youngest of four children that included Bobby David Jordan (infant), Loys Agustus Jordan, Jr. (Sonny) and Carolyn Jordan Giles.
Ron is a 1965 graduate of Wade Hampton High School in Greenville, South Carolina and attended Clemson University. Ron had great enthusiasm for law enforcement and in June 1968, he joined the Greenville Police Department. Ron served for one year in Greenville until he was drafted and joined the United States Army Reserve and served his country for a period of six years. Ron received an honorable discharge on May 12, 1974.
Ron relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina in September 1969 and became a police officer for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. He worked in the Adam 3 and Baker 2 Districts. During his time of service, Ron received many accolades and recognition for his untiring dedication to the department. He was the proud recipient of the Police Community Relations Reward for Outstanding Community Service in 1986. In January 1992, Ron was featured in an article by The Leader. Ron was a Trustee for the Fraternal Order of Police and received recognition for his service from 1981-1984. In keeping with his law enforcement roots, Ron volunteered his services for Security Detail in Edward Knox’s run for governor of North Carolina in 1984. He traveled throughout the entire state with the Knox campaign and enjoyed every mile. Ron retired in September 1998 from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department with 30 years of service.
Following retirement, Ron refused to retire. He established Landmark Security Incorporated and has successfully been at the helm for 17 years. Landmark Security continues to prosper because of Ron Jordan.
Ron also served as a Board Member for the Bonnie Briar Townhome Community. He enjoyed walking the neighborhood and socializing with neighbors. Thank you to the neighbors of Bonnie Briar for all of your love and support through this time.
Ron was bigger than life itself. He loved life to the fullest and was secretly known to be the ultimate beach bum. Ron loved Edisto Island, South Carolina and spent many a peaceful day walking the beach and watching the sunset on the Sound. Ron enjoyed his Shrimp Etoufee and Shrimp and Grits from The Old Post Office restaurant. Beach music, shagging and the low country was in his heart and soul. Ron loved his wife, Diane, dearly and they will forever be joined. They spent 34 wonderful years together as husband and wife.
Ron is survived by his wife, Diane Belk Jordan; daughters Christian JORDAN Anthony, Amber Dawn Jordan, Kathleen Nicole Wager; grandchildren, Carson Maria Anthony, Jessica Ann Hayes, Allah M. Thomas, Jr, Jordan Chase Dunson, and two great-grandsons, Caleb Gene Abbot and Dylan Joseph Hayes. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Flowers will be accepted at Forest Lawn West Funeral Service at 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, North Carolina 28208. Memorials may also be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Charlotte, 7845 Little Avenue, Charlotte, North Carolina 28226.
The family will receive visitors at Forest Lawn West from 6:00pm to 7:30pm on Thursday, May 24, 2012. A service to celebrate the life of Ron Jordan will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 25, 2012 at Myers Park Presbyterian Church, 2501 Oxford Place, Charlotte, North Carolina. Interment will follow immediately at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
