Ronald Renard Nelson

Ronald Renard Nelson, 65, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully March 31, 2020. Born February 9, 1955 in Charlotte, NC; he was the son of Robert W. and Freddie C. (Funderburk) Nelson. He married Vanessa Bryant on April 15, 2002 in Charlotte and they enjoyed almost 18 years of blissful marriage together.

Ronald was a long-time member of Matthews Murkland Presbyterian Church of Charlotte, NC, where he was also member of the choir, which he loved dearly. His occupation of over 45 years, was a Trucker, which he always made very clear was different than a Truck Driver. Most of his years as a Trucker was as an Independent Trucker. A few of the trucking companies that he worked for were G. K. Pope Trucking of Monroe, NC; GAMMA Logistics of New Jersey, NJ and Robinson Motor Lines of Morven, NC.

Ronald is survived by his wife, Vanessa Bryant Nelson of Charlotte, NC; six children, Lisa Renee Clark, Tia (Sidney) Johnson, Rashaan (Kia) Nelson, Christopher Hicklen, Ronald (Jaimie) Renard Nelson, Jr., and Karmel Nelson all of Charlotte, NC; one brother, Walter Robert (Mildred) Nelson; and one sister, Linda (Elton) Smith, both of Charlotte, NC; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Walter and Freddie Carmel Nelson; one sister, Bobbie Jean Funderburk Holloway, all previously of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Due to COVID-19 and Mecklenburg County’s Order Prohibiting Mass Gatherings, Funeral Services will NOT be held.
