Born June 24, 1936, Ronnie was the son of the late George Patrick Hunter, Sr. and Helena Toomey Hunter. He graduated from Myers Park High School and attended both East Carolina and Western Carolina universities. He served his country in the U.S. Army and then spent most of his career as the VP of Mr. Sport Sporting Goods. He and his brother started that business by selling water skis out of their car trunks.
Ronnie was a family man through and through. He loved pranking people and was a consummate jokester. To know him was to love him. He was kind and generous and was always such a gentleman. He had a smile that would light up a room. He would say “thank you” every time someone did something for him, even thanking the nurses up until the day before he passed. He loved to travel and yet was also very content being at home in his big brown chair with his wife. He loved God and that became even more apparent in the final years of his life.
Ronnie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn Cashion Hunter, son, Ronald (Ron) Charles Hunter, Jr. (Angela), daughter, Camille (Cammie) Hunter Howard (Phillip), and grandchildren, Taylor and Zach Howard. He is also survived by sister, Helena Hunter Graham (Gene) and brother, George Patrick Hunter, Jr. (Annette) and was preceded in death by brother, John (Johnny) Nelson Hunter (Jane).
A private family gathering to honor Ronnie’s life by telling stories will be held at a later date.
