Ben was born February 16th, 2007, in Matthews NC. He was the son of Patrick Young and Anne Marie Doland-Young both of Charlotte, NC.
Ben attended St. Ann Catholic Elementary School, Holy Trinity Catholic Middle School and was a sophomore at Charlotte Catholic High School. He enjoyed playing golf with his dad and grandfather, cards with family, video games, and hanging out with his friends after school at the local McDonalds across from his high school.
Ben was kind, gentle, and loved his family. Ben had this dry, witty sense of humor, this grace, a calm demeanor, a mental toughness, and an innate ability to make you feel good when he was around. He was great with technology and his Kindergarten teacher recalls how sad she was when Ben was going to first grade because she wondered who is going to be her computer tech. when her laptop doesn’t work? He was remarkable. He made an impact on all who met him (family, friends, teachers, his doctors and nurses).
He is survived by his loving parents; sister, Amelia Margaret Young of Charlotte, NC; grandparents- Dick and Peggy Young of Clayville, NY; uncles- Jon Young (Becky) both of Clayville, NY and Jerry Doland of Elmira, NY; cousins- Wyatt and Jamison Young of Clayville, NY; Godparents- Dave and Ellen Wentz of Mount Holly; his dog Stella; along with many second aunts, uncles and cousins.
Grandparents Samuel and Amelia Doland preceded him in death.
The family would like to extend a special thank you Dr. Jenny McDaniel and all the St. Jude staff, Nurse Jennifer, the nurses at Hemby Children’s Hospital, Hospice Nurse Amanda Parry, and the hospice nurses at Levine and Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville.
