Robert Burnette Taylor passed away on January 6, 2015. Born and raised in Pineville, NC, Robert was the son of the late Robert Knox Taylor and Mary Bailes Taylor. He graduated from East Mecklenburg in 1953 and went on to work in the bearings industry in Charlotte. As an avid fan, he enjoyed working at NASCAR races for the Union 76 Race Team at Charlotte, Rockingham, Daytona and North Wilkesboro Speedways. Robert was a former member of St John’s United Methodist Church, where he was involved with the youth group and played softball on the church league.
He is survived by his wife Betty Howey Taylor; son, Bob Taylor and wife Jean; granddaughter, Madison Taylor and companion Thomas Murray, all of Charlotte.
Robert was truly a kind soul, quick to laugh and not known to issue a harsh word. He was a dedicated fan of Tar Heels basketball, Edisto Beach and sweet corn, and he will be missed so very much.
Visitation will be held at 1 pm on Friday, January 9 at McEwen Funeral Service, 5716 Monroe Rd. with a service to follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel conducted by Reverend James F. Howell. The family would like to thank and express their appreciation to the caring staff at White Oak Manor.
