Robert Woodbury Aiken, SR, 87, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Novant Presbyterian Main Hospital. He was born July 29, 1929 to Robert Laben Aiken and Blanche Harwell Aiken.
Robert was a life-long resident of the Charlotte area and spent his career as a professional truck driver. He retired from Roadway after 35 years of service. He also drove for Bud Lee Paving for 16 years. During his professional driving career he won a “Million-Mile Safe Driving Award.” He was a charter member of Shady Brook Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by his wife Vivian Ramona Groves Aiken, Robert is survived by his sons, Robert, Jr. (fiancé Shirley Meade) and Bruce (Beverly). He is also survived by his grandchildren Justin Aiken and Julie Aiken Wallace (Michael) and great grandchildren Vivian and Violet, cousin Margaret “Polly” Stack and a host of other family and friends. He will also be greatly missed by his beloved dog, Maddie.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 2 from 6-8 PM and the funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 3 at 10:00 AM. Both will be held at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, Freedom DR, Charlotte, NC.
