Richard D. White

Richard graduated from Malvern Preparatory School in 1954. While living in Coatesville, he worked for the Philadelphia Electric Company as a lineman. At that same time, he attended night school at Villanova University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. His strong work ethic also led him to be a volunteer firefighter in Coatesville at the same time.

Richard married Myra W. White on January 5, 1956 in Coatesville, PA where they started a loving family of five daughters and a son. The family then moved to Vestal, New York in 1966, were Richard began work at the IBM Endicott facility as a mechanical engineer. He was quickly promoted to manager of safety and in 1978, he was asked to assist with the development of a Charlotte, NC IBM location. He and the family moved to Charlotte where they resided until 1981. After another promotion, he and his family moved to Boca Raton, FL, where he worked until 1988. He then retired from IBM (as one of the first early white collar retirees of IBM).

Richard received a degree as a Nuclear Medicine Technician from Mount Sinai School of Nuclear Medicine. After several years as a Nuclear Medicine Technician, he changed course and took a position with Prime Management in Boca Raton, managing over 400 apartment units in Boca Raton. In 2004, he and Myra moved back to North Carolina to be closer to their family.

He worked at Allen Tate as a realtor until a position as Facility Manager with St. Luke Catholic Church in Mint Hill came to his attention in 2020. He worked there until May 2023.

For Richard, his family always came first and he was considered “Heaven’s Handyman.” Richard was a devoted husband to Myra and they liked to take cruises, baking together, grilling and gardening, preparing large family meals, and attending as many family baptisms, graduations and weddings as possible. One of their fondest hobbies was finding time for high school and college soccer games, collegiate equestrian competitions and visiting children up and down the East Coast. Richard was a man of many talents and a unique sense of humor who enjoyed helping others with his wide set of skills and knowledge. His wisdom, friendship and charming personality will be greatly missed by all who had a chance to know him.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Myra White; his six children, Beth Sutton (Richard), Patti Kroculick (George), Terri Kramer, Peggy Cartwright, Sue Ellen Pfaff (Scott), and Daniel White (Susan); his sixteen grandchildren, Katie Putman (Alex), Brian Sutton (Erin), Stephen Kroculick (Simina), Jennifer Kroculick, Andrew Kroculick (Olivia), Laura Rostick (Brian), Jay Kramer (Megan), Ginny Kramer, Jon Womack (Jenni), Kathryn Bulliner (Ed), Mary Beth Cartwright, Michael Cartwright, Madison Pfaff, and Nicolas White; his step-grandson, Kevin Leonard (Sarah); his ten great-grandchildren, Anna Putman, Ethen Sutton, Jane Sutton, Luka Kroculick, Esmy Kroculick, Nolan Rostick, Wyatt Kramer, Charlotte Frith, Eleanor Bulliner, and Gavin Leonard; his brother, Michael White; and many other loving extended family members.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 9800 Fairview Road, Charlotte, NC. A visitation will be held prior from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
