Richard “Dick” Wayne Redfern, 77, of Lancaster, SC, passed away peacefully March 23, 2024 in Waxhaw, NC. Born May 16, 1946 in Charlotte, NC, he was the son of the late Pete and Frances (Godbey) Redfern. He married Sheryl M. Watkins on May 12, 1984 in Irmo, SC.
Richard Redfern was a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, coworker and friend. He served his country in the Army, was in the Vietnam War and was always patriotic. He had a long sales career with Eastern Airlines. In fact, he was in sales most of his life. After working in the airline industry, he worked with companies extending from Walmart to American Express. He was very involved with the community, sports, church and spending time with his loved ones. Later in life he enjoyed reading, crosswords, listening to music and playing cards with his children and grandchildren. He loved history. He collected books, enjoyed trivia, and loved all genres of music. But, most of all he loved his family.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Sheryl M. Redfern; children, Smyth (Veronica) Redfern, Kelly Hendrix and Erin Redfern (Simon Barth); bonus sons, Patrick (Mona) Watkins and Jerry (Leslie) Watkins; 15 grandchildren; 2 great-grandsons; sister, Terrie (Neal) Moore; brother, Kenny (Trinh) Redfern; sister-in-law, Nelda Redfern along with nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his brother, Neal Redfern.
A visitation for Richard will be held Friday, March 29, 2024 from 12:00 PM until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC. Burial in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Weddington Methodist Church, 13901 Providence Road, Weddington NC 28104.
