As a young man he attended Morgan Elementary and went on to graduate from Second Ward High school. He then went on to join the army and upon returning to Charlotte he graduated from Carver College. He then started his 40 year career as the mailroom supervisor at Duke Power. After retiring from Duke Power he then went on to become the saxton at his beloved Nazareth P.B. Church. He also served as a trustee, he was in the men’s choir, the layman's council, men’s Sunday school class and the mid week bible study.
At the tender age of 14 he met and fell head over heels in love with Margaret Black Perry. They were together for 74 years and married for 67 years. Together they enjoyed eating out, fishing, going to the casino and traveling the world. Above all he loved his family especially his grandchildren which he gave everything to.
He is preceded in death by his sister Delores Perry Pearson, his daughter Anith Perry Stitt and grandson Jeromy Dakota Perry.
He leaves behind to cherish his loving memory his wife of 67 years, Margaret Perry; 7 children,Catherine Aljuwani, Jerome Perry (Jackie), Michael Perry, Hillis Perry (Camile), Richard Perry III, Larry Perry (Sabrina), and Calvin Perry. Sibling's, Howard Perry, Stella Owens, Joyce Owens, and William Owens; 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grands and 3 great-great grands. A host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A visitation for Richard will be held Saturday, February 4, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service-Derita Chapel, 6300 Mallard Creek Road, Charlotte, NC 28262. A funeral service will occur Saturday, February 4, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 6300 Mallard Creek Road, Charlotte, NC 28262. A committal service will occur Saturday, February 4, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, 1504 W. Sugar Creek Rd., Charlotte, NC 28262.
