Mr. Pate was reunited in Heaven with his wife, Marie Brown Pate, and his 10 siblings on April 17, 2012. He was born August 25, 1925 in Durham, NC, to the late John C. Pate and Edith L. Pate. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 21, 2012, at McEwen – Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210, with Rev. Robbie W. Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park with Navy military rites. The family will greet friends Saturday from 11:00 until the funeral hour. Memorials may be made in remembrance of Mr. Pate to Present Word Ministries, 1101 Garden Dale Drive, Columbia, SC 29210 or Bakers Volunteer Fire Department, 2116 Rocky River Road North, Monroe, NC 28110.
Mr. Pate proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII, serving on the USS Tennessee. After the war ended, he moved to Charlotte and became an electrical contractor until his retirement. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. James Roberts and Dr. Dino Kanelos for their exceptional care.
He is survived by his three daughters and their husbands, Nancy and Sam McGee, Edy and Glenn Morris, and Lynda and Jay Kizer. He was a devoted grandfather to six grandchildren: Grant McGee and his wife, Kelly, Brandon McGee and his wife, Ashley, Adrianne McGee, Payton and Weston Kizer, and Meredith Morris; and one great-grandchild, Garrett McGee.
