Richard “Rick” Samuel McVicker, 39, died Monday, December 24th at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, NC. Rick was born June 10th, 1973, in Napoleon, OH, and grew up in Charlotte and Concord, NC. Rick attended North Carolina State University and received an Associate in Applied Science degree in Professional Woodcraft from Haywood Community College in Clyde, NC. Rick worked as a master craftsman in cabinetry and furniture. Rick was also a gifted musician and vocalist. He was a founding member of several bands, including the Funguys and the Majic Markers. In later years, he played with Jem Crossland and the Hypertonics.
Rick is survived by his wife, Gabrielle Kirsten Childers McVicker; his mother, Pamela Garner McVicker of Concord; his sisters, Sandra McVicker Parrott of Charlotte and Deborah McVicker Robie of Clayton; his niece, Shelby Redelin Parrott; and his nephew, Jacob Thomas Parrott. He is preceded in death by his father, Richard Wilson McVicker, Jr. Rick was a lover and rescuer of greyhounds, and leaves behind loving pets, Jacey, Biscuit and Jack Benny.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 28th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Harry & Bryant Funeral Home, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28207. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 29th at All Saints Episcopal Church, 525 Lake Concord Rd., Concord, NC 28025.
