Richard, a native of Charlotte, graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1959 and was a member of the United States Marine Corp. After his time in the Marine Corp, he was employed by Thurston Motor Lines in Charlotte, NC and Willamette Industries in Matthews, NC.
Richard loved to attend the activities of his kids and grandkids and stayed active up until his final week, going square dancing with Sandra and their friends. He set an example for all of us in the way he loved his family and how committed, devoted and attentive he was to Sandra through their 56 years of marriage. When not busy with family or square-dancing friends, they loved to take day trips where they could explore nature with their dogs. He remained involved in various activities as a member of Matthews United Methodist Church throughout his adulthood.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Sandra Frye; his sons, Wesley Frye (Laura) and Gregory Frye (Mary); his daughter, Jenifer Dills (Mitch); his grandchildren, Zachary Frye (Rachel), Justin Frye, Thompson Frye, Will Frye, Graham Frye, Emily Frye, Bryson Dills, and Sawyer Dills; his great-grandchild, Eliza Frye; and many other loving extended family members.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at McEwen Funeral Service - Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC.
