Rachel was born on May 4, 1930, to the late Sanford and Nora (Helms) Crump in Mecklenburg County, NC. She was a faithful employee of Carolina Foods in Charlotte, NC where she worked for 50 years until her retirement. On August 16, 1957, she married Robert J. Sutton. They were married for 48 years until his death in May 2006. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church for over 20 years.
She recently resided at Stanley Total Living Center, where she enjoyed playing bingo, being a bingo caller, making crafts, attending church services, and singing in the choir. She also enjoyed socializing with the other residents and staff. What she loved most in life was spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, husband Robert, son Melvin Franklin, three brothers James Crump, Lewis Crump, and Melvin Crump and a sister, Irene Blount.
She is survived by her three daughters Tina King (Rocky) of Albemarle, NC; Patricia Little (Tommy) of Holden Beach, NC; Gloria Clark (Robert) of Belmont, NC; and son Kenneth Sutton (Melanie) of Indian Trail, NC; brother George Crump of Monroe, NC; cousin, Clara Crump of Forest City, NC; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at Sharon Memorial Park at 1 pm conducted by Rev. Kevin McClure. A public celebration of life will be held on a later date.
