Peter was born on July 1, 1937, in Black River, Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica to Rudolph Augustus Young and Beryl Ethelin Sailsman Young. He was a cherished brother to Victor Young, Robert Young, Althea Young Stewart, and the late twin Eleanor (Bibsy) Young Baugh. Peter dedicated years of service to the Ministry of Transport and Works in Jamaica before immigrating to the United States in 1960. He built a life with his late wife, Mary Thomas Young, with whom he began his family, including his beloved son, Peter Jr. (deceased).
After Mary’s passing, Peter found love again with Hyacinth Stewart, and together they shared many cherished years, relocating from Florida to Charlotte, North Carolina. Peter will be deeply missed by his wife Hyacinth, brother Victor, brother Robert, sister Althea, children Victor, Nyoka, Lois; step-daughter Hayleigh; grandchildren Zuri, Victoria, Victor II., Leah, Brian, Anthony, Sunny; step-grandchildren Gabriyelle, Garrid, Mykala; great-grandchildren Brielle Emani McLaughlin-Young, Ava, Averi; step-great-grandchildren Sarabi and Sehlani.
When not enjoying his family, Peter pursued his passion for cars, music, action movies, and his garden, where he spent hours pruning, planting, and tilling. He will be remembered for his positivity, love, and humor...and sometimes spice, sweets, and seafood.
His legacy of love, dedication, and resilience will forever be cherished by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 115 W 7th St. Charlotte, NC 28202 on March 16, 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
