Peggy Alexander Dawkins passed away peacefully at her home on January 11, 2017 with her children by her side. She was preceded by her husband of 50 years, Earl Dawkins Sr. and her parents, Roy and Evelyn Alexander.
She is survived by her three children, Theresa Davis and husband Earl; Earl Dawkins and wife Gail; Kevin Dawkins and wife Teresa; her sister Linda Hargett and husband David, all of Matthews; 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Born March 23, 1928 in Charlotte, she graduated from Thomasboro High School in 1945 and was a charter member of East Baptist Church. After being employed at Folger Buick for over 17 years, she retired in 1987 to devote time to family and friends.
Peggy was an avid square dancer for over 45 years traveling all over to conventions and putting on many exhibitions for charity only to be sidelined by a severe fall in 2012 that kept her from ever returning to the dance and dancers she loved so dearly. Unable to fully recover from her injury, Peggy's overall health began to decline and eventually succumbed to Parkinson's disease. She loved and always wanted to be around people, never meeting a stranger.
Mary King, who loved and took care of Peggy over the last year will always be remembered and loved by the family.
To remember Peggy, donations may be made to Hospice of Charlotte.
