Pauline E. Suttles Porter, 87, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed into the hands of her Lord peacefully on October 23, 2024. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of everyone she met.
Born in Marion, North Carolina, in 1937, Pauline dedicated her life to her faith and her family. She was known for her love of the Lord, history, Biblical study, genealogy, writing and her boys.
Pauline is survived by her sons, John D. Porter III (wife Ann) and Christopher R. Porter (wife Kerry), as well as her cherished grandsons, John Ross, David Maxwell and Joshua Walter. She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, John D. Porter Jr., and her granddaughter, Clare Olivia Porter.
Polly had a heart for service and was an Uber for her senior friends long before that technology changed our lives. She was smart, organized, driven and extraordinarily persistent – qualities that she was proud to pass on. Each of these traits were needed for Polly to overcome the many obstacles of a childhood begun in a house with a dirt floor in Appalachia in the 1930’s.
In all she was truly a Proverbs 31 woman, working inside and outside the home as the times and circumstances required. She relentlessly promoted her family’s successes, sometimes to the fatigue of her friends! After John’s death she proudly made an independent life in all ways, most proudly, financially. Her legacy of hard work and faith will always remain in the hearts of those who knew Polly.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 11 AM at Liberty Free Will Baptist Church in Marion, North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Pioneer Christian Missions or KinderMourn.
