Paul grew up on the west side of Mecklenburg County and attended Paw Creek Schools. In October of 1950, at 22 years old, Paul enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served proudly for two years and was honorably discharged in October of 1952.
Following his military service, he began working for Nebel Knitting Mill in Charlotte, NC where he met his first wife, Cammie Giles Wiley. They were married in 1951 at the home they shared together and enjoyed twenty loving years of marriage until Cammie’s passing in 1971.
After leaving Nebel Knitting Mill, Paul worked and was a partner at Rainbow Paint and Decorating Company until his retirement in 1995.
Paul was an active and devoted member, Deacon, and Sunday School teacher at Durham Memorial Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC for over fifty years. Through his church, Paul was a member of the NC Baptist Disaster Relief Team and was extremely passionate about the work they did. Notably, the team provided desperately needed assistance to New Orleans, LA after Hurricane Katrina and to Kinston, NC and Topsail Beach, NC after floods.
Paul found love again in 1972 when he married fellow church member Ada Bowman Wiley. They loved and cherished each other for over forty years until Ada passed away in 2015.
Paul and Ada moved to Rock Hill, SC in 2008 and joined Eastview Baptist Church where Paul attended for 14 years until his passing.
Aside from working with the disaster relief team, Paul’s other greatest passion was making furniture. He specialized in making tables and desks and would often thoughtfully gift his creations to family members. Paul was compassionate and fun-loving, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Paul has been reunited in Heaven with his parents, Elmer and Hattie Wiley; his first wife, Cammie Giles Wiley; his second wife, Ada Bowman Wiley; his step-children, Harold Norwood, Danny Hopper, and Peggy Davis; and one granddaughter.
Those left to remember Paul include his daughter, Paula Mickey and husband, Garry; his step-daughter, Mary Bollinger and husband, Kelly; his step-daughter-in-law, Cindy Hopper; his brother, Howard Wiley and wife, Edna; three grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren; as well as countless other loving family members and friends.
A graveside service officiated by Rev. Garry Mickey will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 5th, 2022 at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive in Charlotte.
