Paul was born in Saginaw, MI on September 20, 1963, to Paul R. and Frances K. Manuel. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Greenville, SC. Around age 10 his family relocated to Sarasota, FL where Paul attended Catholic school, graduating from Cardinal Mooney High School.
Following graduation from Manatee Community College in Bradenton, FL, he pursued a career in Hospitality Management and was employed by Morrison Healthcare Food and Nutrition Services. Paul’s industrious career began at Tampa General Hospital. From Tampa he moved to Savannah, GA where he spent several years at Candler Hospital and where 3 of his 4 children were born. His youngest son, David, was born in Charlotte during his first tour at Presbyterian Hospital. After Savannah, he relocated the family 4 times in 12 years. It was a rare occurrence that a child started and finished the same school.
Paul’s love of the outdoors was highlighted by the family’s numerous camping and fishing trips. He was a long time Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan, never losing faith in his beloved team even when the chips were down. That love has carried on to his sons and many memories were made attending games together. Paul was also a member of the Queen City (Charlotte) Corvette Club, reigniting his love of Corvettes, as he owned four throughout his life. His passion for corvettes was for both new and old models and he so enjoyed working on them and showing them off.
Paul is survived by his four children: Emily Clare (27), Paul Joseph (26), Thomas Robert (23), and David James (20). He is also survived his three sisters – Nancy Lowdermilk, Sharon Scott and Robin (Charles) Garrett and his brother, Robert (Jenny) Lord, and his former spouse, Kathleen L. Manuel
Family and friends mourn Paul’s unexpected passing on June 2, 2023. A Mass to celebrate Paul’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 24 at St. Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville, NC where he faithfully attended Sunday Mass as a true and just follower of Jesus. The family will receive friends and family following the service at Brick Row 19725 Oak St., #9 Cornelius, NC
