Charlotte - Patsy Trull King passed away peacefully on December 6, 2015 at home, surrounded by her loved ones after a long and courageous fight with Parkinson’s disease. She was a loyal wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend.
She is survived by her husband, H. Joe King, Jr. of Charlotte; her three daughters, Susan King Carpenter (Skip), Karol King Huson Santos (David) and Nancy Elizabeth King, all of Charlotte, NC; brother, Dr. Marvin Phillip Trull (Margie) of Varnville, SC; and sister, Susan Janette Trull of Lumberton, NC.
Patsy is also survived by her four grandchildren, Lillian Marie Huson, Joseph John Huson, Ryan Christian Carpenter, all of Charlotte and Casey Jackson Carpenter of Arlington, VA; many nieces and nephews; and her “4th daughter” Allison Stanley of Charlotte.
Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Ray Trull, Hazel Marie Vaughn and sister, Rachel Trull.
Patsy was born in Charlotte on March 20, 1932. She graduated from Thomasboro High School, got a job with Rulane Gas Company, and later worked as a secretary at the Jacks Cookie Company. She was introduced to the love of her life, husband Joe, through a mutual friend who said they were just “perfect” for each other…and they were. They were happily married for 61 years.
Patsy was the quintessential partner and spouse. She traveled with Joe to France while he served in the Army, to Chapel Hill during his college years, and back to Charlotte where they began their family and Joe began his career with Home Federal Savings and Loan.
Patsy loved family. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren. She participated in many community events and activities in Charlotte, and was most proud of her work with the Hezekiah Alexander House and the Carolinas Carousel Pageant/Parade.
Patsy was a member of Carmel Baptist Church for 43 years, and enjoyed being a member of the Bob McGinn and later, the Charles Cranford Sunday School Classes, where she and Joe developed a very close network of friends.
Her life was full of many riches as she loved to travel, collect antiques and shop! As her disease progressed, she gracefully accepted challenges, but continued her daily routine of spreading love and laughter to every family member, caregiver and friend as she would enjoy the visits, stories and songs they brought her each day. She was a beautiful radiant soul with an infectious smile.
The family would like to thank ALL the caregivers for their kindness and giving. To the team of doctors, nurses, aids and volunteers with Hospice, thank you for blessing “Ms. Patsy” through her illness.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-7:30 pm Wednesday, Dec. 9 at Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte. The funeral service will be held 2 pm Thursday, Dec. 10 at Carmel Baptist Church, 1145 Pineville-Matthews Road, Matthews. Interment will follow at Elmwood City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 E. 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204 or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163-4777.
