Patricia Brown Miles left this world peacefully on January 17, 2017 surrounded by her loving family after a valiant seven month battle with cancer. Patty was employed at Levine Children’s Hospital where she served as a dedicated and compassionate neonatal intensive care nurse for over 24 years. Her most recent position was working as the Pediatric Ophthalmology Coordinator.
Patty was truly a marvelous human being. She dealt with great sadness and loss in her personal life, but yet still maintained the ability and empathy to love and care for those around her. Her God given ability to endure the worst that life can dish out was a source of strength and inspiration for her family and friends. She understood more than most that life isn’t fair, but she never gave up and she always maintained her faith in her fellow man and God almighty. Her beautiful smile, her dry wit and humor and the sound of her wonderful laugh will be forever etched into the minds of those that knew her.
Patty simply loved to be surrounded by her family and friends---and she had many. She was the kind of person that was happier with a back yard family barbecue than dinner at a 5 star restaurant. A perfect weekend for Patty was to go her mountain home in Virginia that her husband and son built for her, which provided many gatherings with family and friends. Patty also enjoyed trips back home to Ohio and the annual week long summer “girlfriends’ vacation getaway”. She will be missed more than words can express, but we are comforted with the knowledge that the gates of heaven will be open wide awaiting her arrival, and she will be comforted and greeted by the many friends and family that have gone before her. The world is a better place for her having been here and we are all better people for having known her. Oh dearest Patty, we will miss you so very much!
Patty is preceded in death by her loving daughter, Megan Leigh Miles; father and mother, Claude and Beulah Brown; and sisters, Peggy Brown McFadden and Linda Brown Wilson. Patty is survived by her devoted husband, Michael Lee Miles; her loving son, Joseph William Miles; sisters, Pam Miller, Penny Kegg, Patsy Masar, Virginia King and Pauline Stutzman; and many adoring nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2017 from 11 a.m.–1:00 p.m. at the Harry and Bryant Funeral Home, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC, with a funeral service immediately following. Interment will follow the service at Matthews Historic Cemetery, 800 Fullwood Lane, Matthews, NC.
