Patricia "Pat" Malone Elrod

Pat was born on September 12, 1953, in Siler City, North Carolina to the late Eugene Malone and Lydia “Pi” White Malone. She was the eldest of four children. Pat was a typical eldest and always took care of her siblings even into adulthood. Pat graduated from Jordan Matthews High School in 1971 and found her way to Charlotte where she attended Central Piedmont Community College and completed an Associate's degree, met her husband, and started a family.

She worked at Celanese for over 20 years in the purchasing department before transitioning to a similar role at Continental Tire. After about 10 years at Continental Tire, she retired to serve in her most beloved role, Mimi, and was pivotal in helping both her daughters start and build their careers.

Pat was a member of Living Faith Baptist Church for 30 years serving in various roles including preschool teacher, choir member, VBS volunteer and minutes secretary. She loved the Lord with all her heart and her church community was always one of her most favorite places to be!

Pat had her hands in a little bit of everything and was always the first to step-up and volunteer for any need in her community, work and church. Everyone knew that her greatest joy and deepest passion were “her girls”, Angela and Amy. Despite the demands of a full-time job, Pat immersed herself in their lives with unwavering commitment. She was a constant presence on the sidelines, an enthusiastic helper in the classroom, a provider of snacks at every event, a tireless volunteer at countless games, and a “second mama” to the many neighborhood kids who frequently filled their home. Even as Angela and Amy moved through high school and college, their friends often considered Pat as a second mom. Pat embraced motherhood with grace, a role she believed she was born to fulfill. Later, that same love spilled over to her 8 grand-babies whom she played an essential role in raising, particularly in their baby and toddler years. Family was everything to Pat and she stayed close to all of her family throughout adulthood. She cherished their annual week at the Outer Banks for the Fourth of July—a tradition that continues to this day.

Despite the challenges of her illness, Pat's spirit remained a source of joy for others, often expressed through warm hugs and an enthusiastic “Hey girl!”. Her love for dancing remained undiminished; she found solace and joy in dancing with her grandkids in the kitchen on countless nights. Pat’s legacy is one of unwavering love, dedication, and a vibrant spirit that touched everyone around her.

In addition to her parents, Pat was predeceased by her brother, Don Malone. She is survived by her two daughters, Angela (Matt) Tucker and Amy (Brian) Carter; her ex-husband but forever partner, Edward Elrod; grandchildren, Oliver, Canaan, Knox and Campbell Tucker and Emerson, Phinehas, Maxwell and Shepherd Carter; sisters, Judy (Charlie) Lane, Lisa (Joe) Williams and Rhonda Malone; and many beloved nieces and a nephew.

Family will receive friends on Friday, August 23, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 PM at Living Faith Baptist Church. A Celebration of Pat's life will follow at 3:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Pat's memory may be made to Living Faith Baptist Church and/or Little Lamb Orphanage Fund.
