He was born on January 8th, 2022 in Charlotte to John Floyd Anderson and Kristy Marie Hoffman.
Chance, or “Cheeks,” as he was lovingly known, spent the first 62 days of his life in the NICU at Hemby Children’s Hospital in Charlotte. He had weekly appointments for speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and hearing therapy, on top of his regular doctor’s appointments and appointments with specialists. Chance was smart and determined, and he surpassed progress goals set for him on three separate occasions!
He was born with limited sight and hearing, and although it was not exactly clear how much or little he could see or hear, there were certain experiences that brought him so much happiness. Specifically, Chance loved sunshine and being outside, and after his Mom convinced the physical therapist to take his sessions outdoors, Chance’s progress noticeably excelled.
Chance also had a special bond with his Dad, and he could hear his Dad’s voice despite not being able to hear most other people’s voices. When his Dad spoke to him, his face would light up, and when his Dad held him, Chance would coo and snore while sleeping soundly. Bath time was another one of Chance’s favorite activities, and he especially loved taking baths with his Dad.
Chance’s Mom knew the way to his heart was lightly brushing her hair on his cheeks, or running her fingers through his hair. Spending those moments with her made him so happy.
Chance faced many challenges during his life, but he was resilient and strong every step of the way, and his family will miss him so much.
Those left to remember Chance include his Mom and Dad, Kristy Marie Hoffman and John Floyd Anderson; his sisters, Rebekah Elizabeth Anderson, Skyler Abigayle McGinnis, and Sophia Claire Hoffman; and his godmother, Jennifer Idella Anderson; as well as numerous other loving family members and friends.
