Born Neonila Nowakwiska in Eastern Europe Ukraine, she was the daughter of the late Ivan and Catherine Nowakwiska. She worked as a nurse on a US Navy ship post World War II, where she met her late husband of 58 years Roland Owen Canady and became a United States citizen after the war.
Most of Mrs. Canady’s life was spent living in Charlotte, NC, where she was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church and retired as a sewing operator. She lived in Chesnee, SC for the last 18 years where she was a member of Graham Chapel Wesleyan Church in Mayo, SC.
Survivors include a daughter Linda C. Griffin and husband Billy D. of Chesnee, a son Christopher M. Canady of Orange Park, FL, a step-son Ronald L. Canady and wife Brenda of Macclesfield, NC, five granddaughters; Shelley Griffin Daniels and husband Clayton of Wake Forest, NC, Lindsey R. Griffin of Charlotte, Christy N. Canady of Greenville, NC, Cayla J. Canady and Julia D. Canady, great-granddaughters, Isabelle N. Daniels and Abigail E. Daniels.
A funeral service will be held 1:00p.m., Saturday, April 29 in the McEwen Derita Chapel, 6300 Mallard Creek Rd., Charlotte with Pastor Preston Edmonds (Graham Chapel Wesleyan Church of Mayo,SC) officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
