Nancy was born in Charlotte, NC and spent most of her youth there until she and the love of her life, Milton, built their dream home in Monroe, NC. On December 29, 1963, Nancy and Milton went on their first official date to Seigle Avenue Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. The couple actually knew each other as children and became reacquainted when Milton was home for the weekends from Camp Lejeune. Nancy and Milton are more than just husband and wife, they have been best friends for over 57 years and were nearly always together. They were a true testament to love, honor, and cherish. They also worked alongside each other in the same industries of graphic communication and education at times.
Nancy enjoyed music and dancing – especially shag. When she was younger, she saw various legends of the music industry at what used to be known as Park Center and even once danced on stage with James Brown. Nancy loved spending time with her family and kept her mind busy working various word and number puzzles.
She is survived by her husband Milton, her daughter and son-in-law Heather and Shea Birmingham, her son Chris Simpson, and two grandsons Bryson and Hunter Birmingham. She is preceded in death by her father Jack Smith, her mother Ruby Moore, her stepfather Ernest L. Moore, her sister Loretta Cook, and two brothers Michael Smith and David Smith.
A private graveside service will be held December 12, 2022 at 2:00pm at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte. A celebration of life event will be planned for a later date.
