She was born in Mecklenburg County to the late Hugh Grady Black and Nellie Beaty Black.
Mittie worked for Alcoa Aluminum for 36 years. Mittie was very strong in her Christian faith and very active in her church, Sharon Presbyterian where she was an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Women of the Church and taught Sunday school.
She had many hobbies including basket weaving, ceramics and knitting and knitted many Christmas stockings for family and friends.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Grady Black, Jim Black, John Black and Tom Black; sisters Margaret Boyd, Nell Adkins and Katherine Small.
Mittie is survived her sister Frankie Beaty; brothers, Harvey Black, Charles Black and Clifford Black; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the caring staff of Brookdale Carriage Club Providence, the hospital staff 7th floor of CMC, and most of all the care and compassion she received at the Levine and Dickson Hospice House at Aldersgate.
