Mildred T. Morrison went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 31, 2022. Mildred was born December 5, 1923 in Polkton, NC in Union County to the late Henry M. Treadway and Lula Hunt Treadway. Their family moved to Charlotte in 1933.
Mildred attended Bethune School and old Harding High School. With her love of reading, she worked in the school library. Mildred also worked at Kress Department Store on Tryon Street.
Mildred met the love of her life, Fred Morrison, in high school. They married on September 4, 1942.
Mildred worked at Chadborn Hoisery on Brevard Street until Fred went into the Army. She then went to work at War Shell Plant on York Road as inspector of 57 mm shells.
Fred was shot twice during the war but thankfully returned to the states and to his girl in December 1944. Mildred then went to work at Southern Bell as a telephone operator on Caldwell Street until their daughter Freida was born.
Mildred was a longtime member of Whiting Avenue Baptist Church. She attended Sunday School and was a member of the choir. Mildred loved her Church and was heartbroken when the doors closed March 26, 2006. Mildred joined Plaza Baptist Church and attended for a short time. However, as her vision changed because of macular degeneration, Mildred had to give up driving.
Mildred and Fred loved traveling to the mountains and the beach...especially Garden City and Ocean Drive...where they made many special memories. Mildred enjoyed wonderful trips and fun times by bus and by plane with special friends to Nova Scotia, the Midwest, California and Niagara Falls.
Mildred always loved music and taught herself to play the piano. Fred loved Christmas music and Mildred made him so happy when she would play Christmas Carols.
Mildred was a great Southern cook spoiling her family with many delicious meals. She loved her family and selflessly took wonderful care of them.
Mildred was preceded in death by six brothers. Survivors include her husband Fred of 79 years; daughter Freida Morrison; sisters Melba Bryson and Frances Hilton; several nieces and nephews.
Many thanks and appreciation to the staff at Asbury Health & Rehabilitation Center for their care and compassion they have given Mildred.
