Charlotte - Michael York, 58, passed away unexpectedly on October 5, 2014 at his home. He was born on June 23, 1956 in Dayton, Ohio. Michael attended and graduated from St. Gabriel's Catholic School, Myers Park High School and Winthrop University. He worked at Tropical Nut & Fruit for over 33 years, and was instrumental in the success of the company. He worked in shipping, production and purchasing. Michael was respected, and thought highly of, by his many friends and coworkers.
Michael wanted only the best for his family and friends. He enjoyed seeing his parents every Sunday, bringing them Holy Communion and doughnuts. He took great pleasure in spontaneously giving small thoughtful gifts to his nieces and nephews. His passing has left a void in our family that cannot be filled, but our loving and happy memories of him will sustain us until we meet again.
Michael was a loving son, brother, and uncle and nephew. He loved all his aunts and uncles. Recently, he spent an annual family gathering with many of his uncles, including Allen, Fred, Dave, John, Tom and Paul York and Kenny Prior. He had a special relationship with his Uncle Jim Turvene, who preceded him in death.
Michael's faith was a very important part of his life, and he was a devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rock Hill. Michael possessed a sweet soul and was always kind and caring to all he encountered.
Michael is survived by his parents, Betty Lee Murphy York and Gerald Patrick York; sister, Carolyn York Bennett and her husband, John; sister, Angela York Bauer and her husband John; nieces, Camille and Eva Bauer; nephews, Christopher Bauer, Anton and Maxim Bennett. He was preceded in death by his brother, Garry Lee York.
