He was born November 3, 1950 in South Shore, Kentucky to the late Wayne Parsons and Dorothy Smith Parsons. Following graduation from McKell High School, Mike furthered his education at the University of Kentucky where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. His career in retail credit began in 1972 with Sears in Lexington, Kentucky. He moved to Houston in 1973 where he worked with Foley’s in their Credit Department. In 1986 he moved to Charlotte to become the Director of Credit for Belk Department Stores. He retired in 2015.
Mike married Donna Clark in 1972 in Russell, Kentucky. They have one son, Matthew Clark Parsons.
Mike was a Big with Big Brothers Big Sisters in Lexington, Ky. He was a leader with Boy Scout Troop 118 for many years. His home church was St. Stephen United Methodist in Charlotte where he volunteered with various projects, mainly choir, U.M.W. and food preparation.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Donna Clark Parsons; his son, Matthew Clark Parsons (Brittany) of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren Emma Elizabeth Parsons and Nathan Eric Parsons; his sister, Sharon Trimble of Houston, Texas. He is preceded in death by his sister, Charlene Parsons.
A private service to celebrate Mike’s life will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, July 7th at St. Stephen United Methodist Church, 6800 Sardis Road, Charlotte, NC. COVID-19 safety precautions will be observed. Private interment will be held at Forest Lawn East in Matthews.
