Michael Lee Nelson

Michael “Mike” Lee Nelson, 67, went to his heavenly home on Monday, August 7th, 2023. Mike was born in Fort Oglethorpe, GA, but was a longtime resident of Matthews, NC. He is the son of the late Robert “Bobby” Nelson and Wilma Nelson.

Mike was a family man and always put family first. He leaves behind his beautiful, loving wife of 38 years, Tina Nelson; sons and “daughters”, Jeremy (wife Brandy), Micah (wife Maranda) and Cody (wife Brittany).

If you knew Mike, you knew his favorite title of all was PaPaw. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Kylee Ryan (husband Jack) and great grandson, Lincoln; Seth Nelson; Brian Nelson (wife Julia); Sarah Nelson; and Jack Mickovic, along with four precious little ones who loved him so, Maverick (age 5); Marleigh (age 2); Tanner (age 3); Maddie (age 2) and his beloved dog, Duke.

Mike was an avid sports fan. On Saturdays, you could find him cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs and on Sundays, the Carolina Panthers. The beach was his happy place, and he enjoyed the many family beach trips each summer along with all the family gatherings and holidays.

As a family, we have the great assurance that Mike has been healed and made whole, and is now in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He knew Jesus and loved Jesus; and in that we find peace that surpasses all understanding.

Services will be held on Saturday, August 19th, 2023 at Resurrection Church located at 2940 Commonwealth Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28205. The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45 pm. Memorial service will begin at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made to Resurrection Church in honor of Mike.
