I just learned of Mike's passing about thirty minutes ago (funeral today). Gobsmacked. 
I, through work, have known Mike for many years. We had many long conversations about many things, seldom regarding work. Mike was one of the most sincere, warm and genuine human beings I have ever had the honor  & pleasure of knowing. 
You, sir, will be missed. 

I have known the Bauer family for a long time. We have lived in the same neighborhood. Emmy and Nic were always at my house hanging out. Mike would call and ask if the kids were ready to come home. Emmy would tell Nooo. Mike always played with all the kids. If it was basketball outside or chasing the kids around. Always spending time with the kids. Mike always opened his home to friends and neighbors. Every weekend was a fun time with Bauer. He will be missed. 

Mike was like one of my "big brother's"  growing up.  I was so very sad to hear of his passing, my mother and husband encouraged me to post these fond memories.  We were about 5 years apart but it seemed like "years." I have not seen him in about 25 years but all these "BAUER" moments brought smiles to my face. One afternoon, my brother and I heard him pull in our icy driveway at about 30 miles an hour and "the goal" was to look like you smashed into someone's car but not really...the alarm on "Zelda" went off in he walks in. He sits down.  My brother "Cruisin" and I just look at each other in disbelief and he's like "YEP, I HIT IT"....it had to go in for insurance claims, and major repairs and the back half of Zelda was smashed in his red cavalier stayed parked crashed into it while he ate dinner with us lol. Next, was the gift certificate he bought us for at Christmas and went with us and enjoyed, Followed by my mom's boyfriend at the time named Mark that he thought needed a "cooler name" so he named him "KRAM" you know Mark backwards and it legit stuck, or the dog we had named "Taz" and he would constantly get him wound up and ask him if we wanted to go play with the neighbor dog "NIGEL" and then leave. Lastly, was probably my favorite...he always lobbied for us "young girls" he had access to the BIGELOWS, for my birthday he brought "Joel." My 7th grade birthday party was complete and Bauer was the man and he let us all know it too!! LOL My mom also informed me he once painted my bedroom so he also was pretty handy too. Mike had a spirit and a sense of humor that was so contagious it made the world smile. Our family was so very touched to be a part of it.

I did not have the pleasure of knowing Mike, but I have had the honor of working with his father Ray at the Belle Valley Fire Department. Ray is someone I deeply respect and enjoy, and I am sure, like father, like son! My deepest sorrow and prayers for the whole family, especially Ray, Nancy, Jeff, Ashley, and Mike's children. May Christ's richest blessings be with you all and carry you through this terrible time of grief!

It was only 19 months ago that I met Mike, when I joined the IAS group at Atrium Health, and Mike  welcomed me right away.  Though our time together was short, he made a lasting impact with his work ethic, friendly demeanor, and enticing smile.   Every time I saw him he would speak, smile and offer his words of encouragement, "how's it going", "things working out", "you need anything"...
Mike was just an all around top notch guy, good friend and is greatly missed by his IAS Atrium Health family!

I first met Mike at Atrium Health Union.  No matter how busy he was he was always willing to take a moment and chat. He was always willing to help out anyone. He will be sorely missed.

Mike was a great teammate and will be missed by his Atrium Health family. He was always helpful and was a great 'neighbor' when we were cubicle mates for a year. My thoughts are with his family.

We have known Bauer for over 20  years & have many fond memories of him water skiing & partying at Findley Lake & Lake Wylie.   We were devastated to hear of his passing. He  was a very caring person & a loving father to his children. He will be greatly missed. Our sympathies & prayers to  the  Bauer family. May he rest in peace!

Bauer was like a brother to me from the first time we met. Our friendship grew over time, seeing each other through the good, the bad, the ugly, and then the great again. We’ve been a part of each others’ lives for over 20 years, and I truly can’t imagine life without him in it. He was the most loyal friend and devoted father. Ashley, he loved you so much and was so excited for the journey that had only just begun. Thank you for loving him for who he was and for bringing life back into the Bauer we’ve always known❤️  Rest In Peace, Bauer.  I hope there’s a cold Miller Lite and some “morale meatloaf” waiting for you up there❤️

I had the privilege of being friends with Bauer (I don’t think any of us called him Mike) for over twenty years.  He was an incredible dad and great friend. Our thoughts are with the Bauer family at this incredibly difficult time. We are all shocked and saddened by his passing. He will be missed by our gang. 

This is a tragic loss; Mike was a great guy. I have had the pleasure of working with him at Atrium over the past 4 years. I am so sorry for his passing; we will be praying for you all for the days ahead.

You were the first guy I met when I moved down here 6 years ago from Boston. You were a very genuine person and welcomed my family into your home on many occasions. We always enjoyed watching football in your man cave and talking sports. I’m so sorry and sad to hear of your passing. Prayers for your whole family. You will be missed.
