Maxine Theresa Cortese, 88, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully with family by her side on October 22, 2024. Born March 12, 1936 in San Antonio, FL, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Theresa Schrader. Maxine was always doing for others, including her family and friends whom she loved so dearly. She had an amazing ability to always be aware of others’ needs and to do whatever it took to help.
Maxine moved to Charlotte in 1970 when her late husband, Harry, retired from the US Air Force. It was in Charlotte that she became an active volunteer at her children’s school and at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The church was a huge part of Maxine’s life. She was involved with the Women’s Guild, Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, Friendship Trays Meal Delivery, altar duty, flower arranging, and she served as the Bereavement Chair for many years. Ask her friends and they will tell you that her involvement in the church went beyond any title.
Maxine is survived by her daughter, Christine Moore of Athens, GA, son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Leshia Cortese of Davidson, NC, and her five grandchildren, Zach, Anna, Kaylee, Jarrett, and Luke. Maxine’s family is very appreciative of the high-quality care provided by Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center. The medical support, kindness, and compassion given to Maxine and the family during her last few days was exceptional.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 30, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul
Catholic Church, 6828 Old Reid Road in Charlotte, with a reception immediately following.
