Mary Parkinson Paget Gault Shope was born on December 1, 1938 in Edinburgh, Scotland to the late John and Agnes Parkinson Gault.
Mary attended Central Piedmont Community College and was employed for many years outside the home. However, the jobs she loved best were that of being a mother to her son, Larry ,and Nana to her grandson, Laurence. Mary extended that love to the multitude of animals that she provided care and shelter for throughout her life. She also loved long walks, reading, gardening and a great cup of hot tea with milk.
Mary may have been small in stature but her eighty-five years upon this earth had a mighty impact upon those she encountered; whether from her beloved Scotland, New York or finally while making a life for herself and her family in Charlotte. She stood firm in what she believed, strongly supported those she loved and made sure she lived this life as she saw fit.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased in death by her husband Jack L. Shope, son Larry E. Shope, brothers; David and William Gault.
She leaves to cherish her memory and marvel at a life well lived, her dutiful and committed companion John Licare, grandson Laurence C. Shope of Durham, NC, daughter-in-law Tracy C. Shope Moore (Kevin) of New Bern, NC, one brother George Gault (Eva) of Australia; a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.
At Mary’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service.
