Mrs. McAteer, 96, of Matthews, NC, passed away Wednesday evening, March 7, 2012 at Carrington Place.
She was born August 13, 1915 in Gaston County, North Carolina, one of four children to the late Charles Brumfield Dillington and Hennrietta Boyles Dillington. Mrs. McAteer and her husband, Floyd, owned and operated McAteer’s Grocery beginning in 1936 and later opened McAteer Texaco in Matthews in 1954. In her earlier years she loved fishing and love to keep up with her grandchildren’s activities and sports events, especially her great-grandchildren.
The McAteer family will greet friends 1:00 PM until 2:ooPM, Friday, March 9, 2012 at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon. A service to celebrate her life will be 2:00 PM from the graveside of Sharon Memorial Park with The Reverend Brad Sallee officiating.
Mrs. McAteer is survived by her two children: Peggy McCoy of Huntersville, NC and Pat McAteer and his wife, Judy of Matthews, NC; 7 grandchildren: Bill McCoy, Harold McCoy, Carol Johnson, Teresa Wells, Rusty Cline, Amy McAteer-Jones and Jennifer Cooper; 21 great grandchildren and a number of great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd M. McAteer in 1988; a daughter, Toby Cline and a grandson, Sandy M. Cline.
