Mary Gibbon Hallett died at Sharon Towers on November 4, 2014. The daughter of Dr. James Wilson Gibbon and Catherine Gilmer Gibbon. She was born in Charlotte, NC on December 21, 1928. She graduated from St. Catherine’s School, Richmond, Virginia and Holton Arms Junior College in Washington, D.C. in 1948.On September 22, 1950 she married John Lindsay Hallett of Charlotte.
She was a member of the Tepsichorean Club and made her debut in 1947; a member of Unity Presbyterian Church, Fort Mill, S.C.; Junior League of Charlotte; Secretary Treasurer York County Historical Society; docent at Historic Brattonsville; Den Mother for Cub Scouts; Dogwood Garden Club and Quest Book Club. Her hobbies including volunteering at Wing Haven, reading, gardening, traveling and spending time at the family beach house at DeBordieu.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, John Lindsay Hallett. She is survived by her daughter, Jean Hallett Covington and husband Ben of Douglasville, GA, and sons, HK Hallett and wife Tracy of Charlotte, N.C., James Hallett and wife Margaret of Charleston S.C., and Robert Hallett and wife Ann of Charlotte, N.C.; and her sister, Catherine Gibbon Tanner of Charlotte, N.C. Mary will be remembered and cherished for that twinkle in her bright green eyes by her nine grandchildren, Catherine, Laura, Caroline, John, H.K., Wilson, Campbell, Ben and Robert and one great-grandson, Tripp.
A memorial service will be held at Unity Presbyterian Church, 303 Tom Hall Street, Fort Mill, S.C. at 11 am on Tuesday, November 11, 2014.The family will receive guests immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorials be made to Unity Presbyterian Church, 303 Tom Hall Street, Fort Mill, S.C. 29715.
