Louise Chapman passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon April 28, 2024, at age 91. She was born on July 12,1932 to Homer and Edna Mae Panter of Birmingham, Alabama. Louise was a loving sister to two siblings, and a devoted mother to her three sons: Kirk, Greg, and Ben.
Louise graduated from Shades Valley High School and attended the University of Montevallo in Alabama. She worked briefly as a runway model in Birmingham after college and won a modeling contest which landed her a small role in the Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis movie, Artists & Models. Louise worked for several years in Birmingham as office manager and medical secretary to four doctors and later for Delta Airlines.
Louise was married to her late husband, Ed Chapman for 49 years and they relocated to Charlotte in 1976. She and Ed became active members of Providence Baptist Church upon their arrival in Charlotte and they volunteered together in the Youth Department at Providence until Ed’s passing in 2010. Louise loved her time working with the Youth Department, often chaperoning various church youth trips and hosting youth events at her home. She was also involved in her Sunday School class, hosting or coordinating monthly luncheons and outings with her church friends.
Louise shared her passion for music and dance with Ed and the two could often be found dancing the night away with their friends. She was also an avid gardener and home decorator. On any given day you could either find her out in her yard planting and grooming her flowers, or inside changing window curtains and re-arranging furniture in various rooms. She also enjoyed her neighborhood friends and was a member of the Craft Group and founded a Newcomers Coffee Club.
Louise is survived by her three sons Ben Chapman (Angela), Greg Browne (Rebecca), and Kirk Browne (Roz), five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents Homer and Edna Mae Panter, brother William H. Panter, and sister Willa Mae Panter.
A service to celebrate Louise’s life will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, May 6th, 2024 at Providence Baptist Church (in the smaller chapel behind the main complex). The family will receive friends following the service in a reception room directly behind the Chapel. A private interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Providence Baptist Church – Youth Department, 4921 Randolph Road Charlotte NC 28211.
