Charlotte – Mary Jane Haley Bruton, age 66, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 12, 2013. She was born on September 18, 1946, in Lynn, Massachusetts, daughter of the late John F, Haley and Mary Gallagher Haley.
A loving wife, mother and sister, she is survived by her husband of 44 years, Gary P. Bruton; her son, Christopher Bruton of Denver, CO; sisters, Betty Anne Haley of Boston, MA, Patricia Goolsby and her husband Kent of Charlotte, Susan Penta and her husband Joe of Boquete, Panama, Rita Primpas and her husband Dr. William Primpas of Milton, MA; and her brother, John T. Haley of Charlotte. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marlene Bruton Paumen and her husband Dave of Birmingham, AL; numerous nieces and nephews; and many, many cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Peter F. Haley.
Mrs. Bruton attended the University of Delaware before beginning a career and life of service, first with the America Cancer Society, where she rose to the position of Regional Vice President; later, as an Adult Programs Coordinator with the Levine Jewish Community Center; and finally, as the Volunteer Services Coordinator and Advocate for Catholic Social Services Refugee Resettlement Office. Mary Jane’s passion was infectious, and the lives she touched were many.
In addition to her many contributions to the community, Mary Jane enjoyed reading, cooking, travel and music. There was not a lyric or verse to a song she didn’t know. She will be missed.
The family would like to thank CarePoint Home Care and Hospice of Charlotte for the love and care they showed Mary Jane.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2013 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6828 Old Reid Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn East Cemetery in Weddington.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 14th at Harry and Bryant Funeral Home, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catholic Social Services, Diocese of Charlotte, Refugee Resettlement Office, 1123 South Church St., Charlotte, NC 28203-4003.
