A daughter of the late Adele Bridges and Herman Walker Noles, she was born June 25, 1924, and was proud to be a native Charlottean. Mary Lib graduated from Central High School in 1942. She married her “sweetheart” Vann M. Austin.
Mary Lib is remembered for her loving nature, playfulness and occasional endearing stubbornness which the family called “strong will”. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who
doted on her grandchildren and especially her great-grandson, to whom she was their “Grammie”.
She loved playing bridge, being the welcome wagon lady and selling Avon. Mary Lib worked for the Knox Law Firm in Charlotte as the bookkeeper till the young age of 83. She enjoyed and loved the people there. She also wrote the newsletter for her classmates at Central High School class of 1942 and helped organize their class reunions. Mary Lib never met a stranger and always had a smile for everyone. Many
referred to her as an “amazing woman”. No one ever believed she was as old as she was and that made her so proud. Her beauty was inside and outside. She was loving, kind and full of life until her final days.
Mary Lib resided in Matthews Glen for over 14 years, where she was loved and cared for as if she was family. She brought laughter to them with her sense of humor. She always wanted to help out and would help the new residences around the facility. The family is very thankful to all the nurses and staff that helped to care for her all those years. Please accept our sincere appreciation.
She was predeceased by her husband, Vann M. and her five siblings: Martha Euhus, Doris Redd, Joyce Middleton, Herman W. “Red” Noles and John Robert Noles. She was the eldest of the six children.
She is survived by her daughters, Tina Austin and Jan Knox (husband Danny); grandchildren, Ananda Kraemer (husband Brandon), Elisha Bethea and Austin Amoroso; and great-grandson, Clayton Vann Butler. Also, her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Noles and many family members.
Mary Lib, “Grammie,” “Mom” will be greatly missed and dearly loved forever in the hearts of so many.
