Martin Earl Bailey, age 57, of Charlotte, North Carolina, formerly of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2022. He was the beloved son of Frances (Pat) B. Casey and the late Richard A. Bailey Senior of Pinehurst, North Carolina.
Martin was an avid sports enthusiast all of his life. He played football, baseball, and basketball for Summerville High School. During his years at Summerville, they were the State Champions in football as well as baseball. He was also chosen to play in the 1983 Shrine Bowl in Charlotte, North Carolina. Martin went on to play for the Wake Forest University Football program as their punter and special teams player in Winston Salem, North Carolina, from 1985 through 1989. During which time he was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference, All Conference Football, for Defense and was also named an All American Honorable Mention. He graduated from Wake Forest in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and was married to the love of his life, Michelle McDonald, in July of the same year. Their adventure began in Dallas, Texas, where Martin was a residential builder for Pulte Homes.
Martin and Michelle welcomed their only child, Meghan Nicole Bailey, in March of 1995. In 1998, they moved their family to Charlotte, North Carolina, where Martin remained in the residential construction industry. Martin was an avid golfer and played every chance he got. He deeply loved his family and friends. He had a keen sense of humor and was so very sharp witted. If you ever met Martin, you never forgot him. Most importantly his family friends are assured that he is with our Lord and Savior and we will see him again. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Martin leaves behind his beloved wife, Debra “Michelle” Bailey; and his admiring daughter, Meghan Nicole Bailey. Also surviving are his mother, Frances (Pat) B. Casey; his sister, Michele Illing (the late Jim); and his brothers, Michael E. Bailey (Cheryl) and Richard A. Bailey, Jr (Marlowe). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.
A visitation for Martin will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00 am Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, North Carolina 28208, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 am in the Paul Helton Chapel. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn West Mausoleum.
