Marlyn was born on April 2, 1933, in Manhattan, NY, to Henry and Violet Sokolinsky. After graduation from Syracuse University, she worked as a teacher for many years. In 1956, she met Leo Fogel on a blind date. Marlyn and Lee married the next year. They were married for 66 years, and went on to have two daughters and four grandsons.
In retirement, they were longtime residents of Boca West Country Club in Boca Raton, Florida, where Marlyn was active in the community and a member of the National Council of Jewish Women. Marlyn was a passionate reader, loved current events, and together she and Lee traveled extensively.
Marlyn was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Violet. She is survived by her husband Lee; her two daughters Cindy Mackler and her husband Dan of Miami, Florida; and Deborah Verderame and her husband John of Charlotte, North Carolina; and by her four grandsons, David Mackler, John Verderame, Matt Mackler, and Nick Verderame; and her brother Mark Stanton of Boynton Beach, Florida..
A visitation will be held Sunday March 5th, 2023 at 9:30 AM at McEwen Funeral Home - Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210. Graveside committal service will be at 11:00 AM at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, 3700 Forest Lawn Dr., Matthews, NC 28104.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice & Palliative Care of Greater Charlotte, a nonprofit organization that was extremely helpful to Marlyn and the family in her last days.
