Mrs. Williams, 86, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 6, 2013. She was born January 17, 1926 in Wadesboro, NC, the daughter of the late Grady Anderson Fant and Lila Mae Bannister.
Marion was a graduate of Charlotte’s Central High School in 1944, and Queen’s College in 1948. She married Ralph B. Williams on November 12, 1948, and together they raised three boys. Marion was an elementary school teacher and retired from Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools in 1986. She loved to travel, read, and do crossword puzzles. Marion was an avid animal lover and her pets were great companionship to her. She enjoyed music and sports, especially Tarheel football and basketball. Marion was a long time member of First United Methodist Church and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Marion is predeceased by her husband, Ralph “Red” Williams; son, Lawrence A. Williams, and daughter-in-law, Janet H. Williams. She is survived by sisters, Jean F. Gilbert of Charlotte and Norma Lynn Higgins of Mt. Pleasant, SC; son, Kenneth D. Williams and wife Elizabeth of Charlotte; son, Richard F. Williams and wife Fran of Charlotte; six grandchildren: Erik Williams, Hayley Williams, Matthew Williams, Kathleen Williams, James Williams, and Daniel Williams.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Plantation Estates for their care and compassion.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 9th from 1-1:45 pm at First United Methodist Church, 501 N. Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC 28202, and a service to celebrate her life will follow at 2 pm. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to First United Methodist Church.
