Margaret had been an artist all her life, born in Corregidor in the Philippines, the oldest daughter of an artistic mother, Elsie Hess Modecai and a U.S. Army physician, Dr. Alfred Mordecai. She had a wonderful career with Belk Department Stores in retail fashion illustration, retiring in 1994.
She was a member of the Guild of Charlotte Artists, The Charlotte Art League, and the High Country Water Media Society in Boone. She was the recipient of numerous awards for her exhibits in Charlotte and throughout Western North Carolina.
Surviving is her sister Mary Lane Early and her family from Raleigh, where the family originally hails from, the Mordecai section aptly named after the family’s historic residence there.
A service will be held at a later date in Raleigh.
